Coming down for Spring Break 3/24-3/30
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum and have been trying to do some looking around on the internet to find a good place to find out the ins and outs of fishing in the area. I'm from central Wisconsin and do quite a bit of bass and musky fishing so I'm outfitted to the teeth to fish for that. I see that a lot of you are using heavier surf spinning combos. My primary rod is a 6'9" Medium light rod. I also have a musky bait caster which is only 6' and is medium heavy for rod weight (I think, I'm away at college right now). I'm curious as to what will be biting in the area and what sort of tackle I'll need and any other good pointers that you can give me to enjoy the sport in an area that's new to me. I currently think that we're doing a charter trip to go out and fish the reefs and rigs. I've always wanted to get a chance to go for red drum but from what I understand, they're around more towards the early summer months. Any pointers you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you guys!
Thank,
Ryan

You'll dump a grand plus on an offshore charter and be disappointed with what your able to keep. If you have six or less people you can go on an inshore trip for half the price and be able to keep the same amount of fish if not more because they can target many more species that time of year. There are a lot of good ones, but if you have kids give my buddy Hollywood aka Capt.Bligh a call at 747-0220. A 65 year man that is called by his first name only when telemarketers call is bound to be a blast to fish with.

Yessir, Hollywood can show you a lot of fish. I have a friend who charters out of Ft. Morgan and Orange Beach (35+ years experience) who can also put you on fish--Capt. Joe Garris (251) 213-6680. Google Dottie Joe Charters.

I would recommend both of these gentlemen. I caught my very first billfish fishing with Joey Garris at the helm.

Educate me a little bit if you will. What are good turbidity numbers? If you can check those stats and determine what the water looks like before you go, that would be VERY helpful!
