    Colored Fishing Line

I have seen several different colored fishing line, what are the pros/cons of using colored line. I can see using a brightly colored line while surf fishing to warn off beach walkers, but beyond that, what?

The main reason I use fluorescent green is so I can see it and keep track of my bait.

What he said, plus I put a rod length+ of fluoro carbon as a leader to keep the green away from my bait - don't really know if this matters. The reason I just put a little over a rod length is to keep the line-to-line knot off the spool when I'm casting.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

On the pier, it's good to use high viz line so you can, as CarlF said, keep track of your bait, but it is also good that others can see your line also. It may keep folks from casting over you, and it is a big help when we do the "Pier Waltz" going over and under one another when a fish is hooked up.

Then again, some folks are gonna cast over you come hell or high water. Some don't know any better, some don't care and there are some like me. Did I take that yellow pill this morning?

When it comes to catching fish, we pretty much all use some sort of leader, and, as John G said, "When a king wants your bait, he'll go through a chain link fence to get it."
