Cleaning Station
I have looked at several pictures of the nice cleaning station avaliable at the pier and I have 2 questions. Do you have AC outlets for a electric fillet
knife? And where do the heads, guts ect. go? Just trying to picture it, does it go into the water as chum?

Re: Cleaning Station
Yes they do currently have AC outlets, hopefully they even still work after being sprayed so many times. Yep the remains are placed back into the water to let nature do its thing, as long as your out at the T your OK so says the state of Alabama. Be sure to pop the eyes and airbladder so they sink, and it helps keep them from washing up.

Re: Cleaning Station
I bet the crabs and other scavengers appreciate it when the fish are biteing.LOL I doubt anything lasts long enough to wash up. But when I use it I will
be sure to puncture the air bladder and eyes. Thanks for the good info.

Re: Cleaning Station
Great question, and answer :headbang:
The condition of the tables was much better (Friday) than previously reported (complained about).
Anyway, the park cleaning crew left a cut bleach bottle to be used as a scooper for guts and scales in the drain tray and it was being washed down intermittently throughout the day.
Blaine did tell me though, he'd been called out to pick up a few redfish carcasses that had drifted ashore this week :-[
And there were several 'floaters' around the mid octi Friday. :
Dead fish bloat and float very quickly in this +85 degree water, and all that decay and bacteria just makes the low disolved oxygen situation in the water around the pier even worse.
Nature has a way of taking care of that though ;-)(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: Cleaning Station
The outlet over the south table worked last week when I tried an electric knife. I quickly discovered that it wasn't made to clean redfish and I went back to the old tried and true knife that I got for five bucks at J&M. It does a number on reds.
Thanks for noticing the scoop. It's from one of my old photo chemical jugs and works pretty well. I've been putting my redfish carcasses in the garbage cans---it actually says in the small print on the sign that we should put our refuse in the containers. Makes the parking lot an unforgettable experience when the wind is right and the garbage truck dumps the containers---nearly brought me to my knees the other day.

Re: Cleaning Station
Those tables should have been designed with like a 6"-8" straight dropped drain at the end. Also a saltwater circulating pump installed on the drain. It wouldn't take much to add them to the tables and it would eliminate some of the problems.

I agree with the improvement to the cleaning table, and an easily removable grate over the drain would keep from accidentally dropping stuff down the drain until you got ready to wash down the gurry.

Re: Cleaning Station
Cleaning station could have been designed better ,but hey ,I 'm just thrilled that there is a fairly decent cleaning table on the pier !
