Catching Sharks
I have never caught any sharks but hearing about all of them around the pier lately has me kind of curious. Do people fish for them off the pier if so what do you use for bait besides a king lol? Just for the fight I would think they would be a good target. Thanks

You don’t have to fish for them, just throw a bait of any kind for the past few days. A fight is all you can get, don’t try to land them.
In fact “No Shark Fishing” is a pier rule and it’s illegal to land a shark on state park property.

Re: Catching Sharks
From what I've heard it has to do with the old pier, where they had a lot of shark fishing going on and the state decided it was too much of a risk to have sharks on the pier. IMHO, it would be really great if we got the rule overturned at least to some degree. Not sure there is enough support to get the rule removed but it would be nice. We lose a lot of tackle every year to them, and it seems like we have A LOT more sharks to deal with than on any of the other piers along the panhandle. Just recently started to do some shark fishing from the beach though, but there are few places where its not covered in tourists and they sort of have it banned in the main gulf shores area.

Re: Catching Sharks
It happened before I started fishing there, and from what I understand grew out of a 'P!$$!#@ Contest' between two people over how and when to shark fish on the pier. ???
Well now it's NOT A RULE, IT IS A LAW ???
http://www.alapark.com/parks/pdfs/Ru...egulations.pdf
(f) It shall be unlawful to fish for sharks or use any type of shark fishing gear on
any Gulf State Park Public Beach or on the Gulf State Park Saltwater Fishing
Pier. It shall be unlawful to land or to attempt to land any shark on any line
originally cast from said State Park Pier or Beach.(RETIRED) mostly.

Will be staying and fishing starting Nov 9th and leaving the 12th. Staying out in Ft Morgan. Looks like I'll have to deal with a neap tide. My battle plan is to fish Dixie point with a Carolina rig...
