Cast Net Question
I got into surf fishing the past two years and I finally got me a good cast net... My only issue is that I'm not real sure where to go to cast it! I will be in the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area, so anything close to there I would be willing to go to for casting. Any tips and advice on places with easy access or tips on where to cast would be greatly appreciated! I'm tired of paying for bait all the time just to throw some of it away sometimes.

It's been years since I have been there but use to stop between mile markers 4 and 3 on Fort Morgan road and go on the Bay side. You could walk along the edge and find tidal pools here and there and they would be loaded with different species of minnows and such. Would then go down to the fort and fish off those big columns on the Bay right where you park at the fort and walk about 50 yards to the right (North). Used to be full of flounder there around those columns. We caught 34 there one day. Course it's been awhile since then and things may have changed a bit!

On a high tide you can cast for mullet (finger or otherwise), pinfish and croakers at Pines Landing on Fort Morgan Road on the bayside. There is a dock, and the boat launch is seldom used.
You could try at the Fort Morgan launch, but there is considerably more boat traffic there. If there are too many boats to use the dock, just walk under the old pier and throw over the metal sea wall there.
Just before you enter the fort, on the right hand side is a wall that you can walk out to a small jetty on the bayside. Park on the side of Broken Road which is directly across FM Road from the wall and walk out. There are always tons of baitfish out there. I would caution you NOT to throw off of the jetty as it is surrounded by submerged rocks covered with oysters that will hang and destroy your expensive new net. Best bet is to wade out in the small cove to the East of the wall when you get out there. It is very shallow and you can stalk baitfish schools there.
You can also find baitfish simply running the surf on the Gulf or Bay side of the point and cast at them. When the water is clear, you can wade out to knee deep and schools of finger mullet will be within easy reach of a skillful cast.

Thank you both so much! I had really struggled with finding a place for information and this forum site looks like it will be my new home! I've been learning a lot the past two years. Thank you for taking some time out of your day to help me, it really means a lot!
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
