Bull Reds and Flounder
Hey guys and gals, havent asked a dumb question in a while, so here it goes... How long can i expect the bull reds and flounder to stay around the pier, or do they ever completely leave? Also, do any of you fish for the big reds with cut mullet on the bottom, or is live bait on the bottom the best? I am fixing to be fishing there a little more often (weekend or 2/month) and just dont have enough time to expirement much. Any advice on the bull reds, flounder, and even ground mullet, and the different baits and/or methods would be very beneficial if you care to share your knowledge. Really dont have any idea about when these fish come and go on the pier, I am used to fishing around DI and above mostly. Thanks for any and all input again!!!

I've always caught ground mullet when fishing for whiting - or perhaps I was catching whiting when I was fishing for ground mullet. Anyway, cut pieces of shrimp on a bait finder rig. Whiting/ground mullet are available year round but seems like the big ones are caught during the colder months. Have had success with cut mullet fished on the bottom with a 4 oz pyramid for reds. Regarding flounder, just do a search for it on the search function. There are multiple threads that discuss the various methods. Short version is live shrimp, bull minnows, tiny LY, or various soft jigs (gulp shrimp with 1/8 to 3/8 oz red jig head for ex) bounced off the bottom. Live bait, I use a fish finder rig with just enough egg sinker to keep it in one spot. Use 20 lb flouro leader with a small treble.
Screw it. Let's ride.

Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
