Depends on personal preference and the reel being used..
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

I'd say you'll be money ahead if you learn what it is, how it acts, and how to fish with it before bringing it go the pier.
    Screw it. Let's ride.

A 704 should hold 250yds of 30lb and still have enough room for 200yds of 16lb mono.Set it up like that and You'll never put strait mono on a king reel again because you only have stretch in the top shot.

    Re: braid backing

I have about 200 yards of braid backing on every one of my king and long rods but have never actually seen it off the spool. I usually grab the for sale braid what ever brand since I just look at it as I would have run out of line anyhow. It's just hopefull insurance.

    Re: braid backing

Now for the down side when braid on black and green Penn spools or Mitchell spools, corrosion.Always apply a thick layer of bow string wax to the bottom half of the spool before putting the line on and take the braid off after fishing season and clean the spool.
