What Pier#r said---Just go to the end of the pier and wait. The jacks don't really hang around anywhere, but they pass by every once in a while. They will bite most any kind of artificial lure, but the more expensive the lure is, the more likely a giant one will bite it.

From the pier -- your chances are pretty good. From "land" (the beach) not good at all. So your best location is the Octi (the south end of the pier) or (where I've hooked most of mine) the west rail just north of the Octi. Usually now is a good time. I throw a crocodile spoon at 'em, but they're not especially picky. Be prepared for your jack to weigh 25 - 30 lbs. They're big, strong fish!
Also, have a plan as to what to do with your fish when you catch it. If you're keeping it to take home, get somebody to gaff it and bring a cooler large enough to accommodate that huge fish. If you're going to release it, then see if someone will net it for you so that you can hopefully release it alive.

What they said!
If you keep it, bleed, fillet and cut out all the lateral line "red meat".
The meat has a texture more like pork than fish, very firm.
Makes great fish curry. Also good grilled.Carl

I've had luck at Fort Morgan as well. But the pier seems to be more consistent.

How often do you see Big Jacks on the end of the pier? , How do you rig for them ?, Live bait, jigs, x-raps ??
If you are going to fight, fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark and brother, it's starting to rain!

Most any lure will work. Sometimes a small flip flop might work

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
