Re: Best time to fish from pier
Mornings, just cause it aint so dang hot. Get there an hour before sunup.
THat said, based on recent reports, there have been runs of reds and kings during all parts of the day.
So, get there early, bring lots of sunscreen, water & snacks and stay all day. You only have so much time to fish, make the most of it!! When I was 14, I could stay all day.
Other advice is to ask for advice. If you dont know, stand back watch for a little bit then ask some one who knows what they are doing. Politeness and a "thanks" will go a long ways towards making friends on the pier.Carl

[size=12pt][font=comic sans ms]Mo, I suggest that in this heat you don’t stay out there all day if you are staying close enough to get a midday break from the sun and heat.
There is often a good late afternoon running of the Reds and other critters that you may be too worn out to enjoy.
If you do try to do the all day thing, be sure to keep the sunscreen reapplied and water should be the drink of choice, and plenty of it. You may want to take along a few samiches, unless you are a fan of microwave food. Just sayin’

as far as just hooking something that pulls... I'd try to be anywhere on the pier from 7 until dark... with ANYTHING... shouldnt be a problem to catch a red...
Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

Exactly Dave. Turbidity is a measure of how clear water is, or how much light is scattered by particles in the water. Turbid water appears cloudy or muddy (dingy). The particles that scatter light...
