Best set up got my equipment
Afternoon to all,
Seeing how I have never had the pleasure to fished this pier before. I am so excited to finally have the opportunity from Aug. 20- 25. If I provide the fishing equipment I plan to bring, can the experts on here please help this newbie out to saltwater fishing.
I would like to know what rig you suggest I should use on which rod & reel please. Sorry for all details but need all the help I can get.
1). Abu Garcia 7000i bait caster on a 6`6" med heavy action rod
2). Penn 450ssg spinning reel on a 9' med action rod.
3). Fin-Nor LT60 Lethal Spinning on a 7` Ugly Stik Bigwater Spinning med. Action rod.
As for catching bait, I will be using a basic spinning rod & reel I use for bass fishing. Nothing to fancy. Plan on using sabikis and ribbon to catch live bait.
Again thanks for any and all help/feedback & comments. Just trying to learn and enjoy vacation.
Thanks
Kevin

1). Abu Garcia 7000i bait caster on a 6`6" med heavy action rod: Could use this one for casting bubble rigs or heavier stuff
2). Penn 450ssg spinning reel on a 9' med action rod: Spanish Rig, though the rod is a little long. I like 7'
3). Fin-Nor LT60 Lethal Spinning on a 7` Ugly Stik Bigwater Spinning med. Action rod. King-size, live bait or plugs.Carl

CarlF,
I can't thank you enough for the info, feedback and direction to go. You have truly helped me out tremendously.
How often are you out on the pier? I would truly enjoy a chance to meet you and maybe pick your brain some more even watch how you fish the pier.

Unfortunately, this year, not as often as I like. I used to fish the pier a lot more when I lived over in Baldwin County.
Once I moved to Mobile, that extra 30 minutes drive and weekend traffic seems to make a huge difference in justifying the drive, you would think "only" living an hour away, I'd be there at least once a month but last week was my first trip in a year.
I've been fishing since my dad got me a cane pole in 1976 and pier fishing almost every summer since 1980. A passion I got from my Pop, fishing seems to be in my blood. I'm glad to help out anyone out!Carl

CarlF,
Sorry for the dumb questions, but you recommend to use my Fin-Nor rig for King Size & plugs. What are those in regards to pier fishing?
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
