Thread: Best pier fishing on the bay bridge (causeway)

Where is the best place on the causeway to fish.
fishing for anything really.
•specs
•hardhead catfish
•redfish
•whiting
•mackerel
•sheepshead
ect.....

You need a boat or kayak to fish the causeway, not really any piers in that area that are worth fishing from. Drive around and you will see some folks fishing from the banks. I've fished a few times from under the bridge by the battleship.

If you have a way to get on the water at certain times you can catch nice fish in that area.

Honestly unless I just wanted to be outside and had a short amount of time, I would just take the time to drive to to DI or Gulf Shores if I was hoping to catch much.

Have you ever fished meaher state park pier. If you have is it any good

Trust me, if you want to catch stuff you really need to head down to the gulf. While you can catch stuff from the shore closer to the causeway it's not really good fishing. Mostly small cats and croakers. Of course you may have a good day here and there but other than an occasional delta bass or rat red I've never had much luck fishing any of those little piers in that area. I spent a summer in spanish fort and fished all those areas off and on. Occasionally you'll hear a good report from Fairhope pier but Ive never caught anything but tiny croakers there.

I bought a yak this year and now it's a different story, I can get access to some decent spots.

Thank you. I'm taking a trip to the gulf in April. Where do you suggest I fish at and also do you know any freshwater piers in the mobile and Baldwin county area.

The pier at Battleship USS Alabama is as good as any on the Causeway.
I like live or FRESH dead shrimp either fished on bottom or under a small float.

The seawall across from the battleship is another good place with flounder and redfish the primary targets.
But a LOT of croakers and catfish are caught there as well.

Meaher Park Pier is primarily fresh water fishing (bream and bass), but they do catch some redfish there and small specks in the fall when the water gets saltier.
The 'white shell beach' at the east end of the park is on the Blakeley River and folkses catch a good number of sheepshead, drum, redfish, specks and flounder (along with LOTS of croaker and catfish) there in the late summer, fall and early winter.

I'm no authority by any means but I have fished many places along the southern Gulf and Atlantic coasts in my lifetime. Techniques vary from area to area, but the one constant I have experienced is that from December until mid to late March fishing is slow to none until you get south of Clearwater Florida. It seems to me that most fish make a living following the bait and in my opinion, most bait moves south to warmer water in the winter months. Just like the snow birds they go where it's not so cold.

Chickasabogue at Brooks Landing in Chickasaw (on the left just before you go over the bridge going into Saraland)
Dead Lake Marina (Creola)

shell bank on Blakeley river is best. Under the bridge by the battleship is second best.
At least that has been my experience.
