Thread: Best party boat to jump on this week.

Son and I are the only ones going, so looking for a good snapper trip for him. His first time for a salty boat trip, he's 7 and spends a lot of time in my bass boat in 2-3 foot rough waters. Saw some $59/4 hr trips .. those any good?

Only ever went on 8 hr. or 6 hr. trips. But, yea, a first trip for a young person is a great trip. Being on the ocean is an eye-opener for a first timer, and then there is the fishing, too.

We experienced electric rays in the surf a couple nights ago. Brother in law got shocked a little by one. Cued us into what they were and why they had no barb !! Lol

What ever boat you choose arrive early, as in too early. You want to get a spot on the back of the boat. I wouldn't let a seven year old fish from the bow of a party boat,. It's no place for a young chap if the seas kick up.

On the other hand, if there's not much breeze or swell the front will have the freshest air. It definitely does pitch more - it's like so much in life, a trade-off.

If it's dead calm and hot the diesel fumes in the back can be rough.

7 yro might be to young. I believe is taking mine but mine were 10 when i took them 25years ago and seems like the Panama City trip would not take anyone younger. The rod may not be something he will be able to handle. Just things to consider.

The most trouble with young children on a boat occurs from boredom. If you remember that your son, not you, is the fisherman you will both share something that can only be had once, and memories are built from the those rare times. Take him, enjoy his company, cause he will soon have other friends and things he will need to do. I don't mean to sound preachy, but memories mean something.

He's good with boredom. We fish 12 hour days for largemouth and that's boring. Lol!

We have not been on a party boat in years - but the ones at Zeke's Marina in Orange Beach should all be good. I have not heard any bad things about any of them.

Just some sage advice

Take PLENTY of water, sports drinks and snacks.

Stake a place out on the West side of the boat going out - and East side coming back to take advantage of the shade during the ride.

Listen to the Mates and the Captain when they direct on how deep to fish.

Be thankful for every fish you catch, but be especially thankful of the time you spend with your boy.
