best method and areas to fish with gulp shrimp?
I am looking for info on the best methods/rigs for using gulp baits, mainly shrimp. Do you fish them on a standard lead jig head and just bump it along the bottom somewhat like bass fishing with a plastic worm or would it be better to do a crawl type retrieve on the bottom or possibly under a popping cork or a slide/clacking type cork? Also, being without a boat, where would be some good spots to try and what type fish will I be able to catch with this type of lure, redfish, flounder, specks and are they better for one type fish over another?
Thanks,
David

Re: best method and areas to fish with gulp shrimp?
They are VERY effective for a variety of fish in a variety of situations.
I've caught everything on them from pinfish to HUGE black drum! ???
The three inch New Penny and Natural Moulting are my favorites.
Common nicknames are "flounder candy" and "redfish crack". LOL
Even white trout and ground mullet will eat them (or at least try).
Most of the time I use them on the 1/4 ounce Mann's jighead.
It's a fairly short shanked hook and the bend of the hook comes out in a good place that doesn't interfere with the tail action.
Most of the hits seem to come on the drop after it's been popped up off the bottom.
But there are times when just crawling it along the bottom with occasional pops is most effective.
And I've heard they are real good at times under a popping cork rig especially in dingy or semi clear water when the smell factor helps fish find the bait.
There is always a bag in my tackle box or lure kit no matter where I fish.(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: best method and areas to fish with gulp shrimp?
Thanks for that info, they seem to be a little brittle as far as after catching a few fish, they don't really stay on the jig head that well. All I have caoght so far is some small specks and one catfish, but I seem to be getting the tail nibbled off by pinfish I would guess. Would they be effective in the wading part of the Little Lagoon or the West Pass or the Perdido Pass?
Thanks

Yep, .works in shallow water. I have caught red fish with them under a cork, with slow reterive or floating against the current..
