bait presentation
I have heard Bait presentation mentioned on different occasions on various threads but have never asked or saw it explained so not wanting to sound to stupid is it how you work the pole reel does it have to do with the way you tie the bait . I watch people trying to figure this out and it seems everyone have there own way about things . So I guess my question is what are you'alls take on this and your help is always much appreciated THANKS

Re: bait presentation
"Bait presentation" is a term bandied about quite a bit and as you noticed not well described.
For me it should be preceeded by the word PROPER.
That opens the door to realize that a presentation for one bait (or situation) may work and not in another.
It does include such steps as 'how you work the rod (or reel)' or 'tie the hook' and 'hook the bait'.
It also includes where you throw it and when.
So keep in mind "proper bait presentation" is not two or even three dimensional, but includes the fourth dimension of time!
In other words you will obviously not catch many speckled trout on a 3/0 4X treble hook, or flounder floating an LY from the end of the pier (anytime), nor many king mackerel 'snobbling' a cigar minnow at night in January on the beach.
Those are rediculous examples (of course) only to stress the range of situations available to anglers.
"Proper bait presentation" relates to the current situation and is subject to change as conditions change.
Hope that helps!(RETIRED) mostly.

[font=comic sans ms][size=12pt]Do some research as to what baits are recommended for what fish to put you in the ball park.
Watch what the people who are catching are rigging and working their rig. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions and help.
When it comes to rigging, less is best; you want the fish attracted to the bait and not the terminal tackle. Rig as stealth as possible, but strong enough to handle the targeted species.
Of course it is hard to know exactly how each live bait presents its self once it is under the surface and out of your sight.

A good way for us to all "calibrate" the turbidity numbers will be for people to report their general impression of visibility pretty often (including time of day) at the station. Which brings up...
