Welcome aboard butler2012!
There is a bunch of info in the
LOCAL TIPS, TRICKS and TERMINOLOGY for FORUM MEMBERS thread
http://www.gulfshorespierfishing.com...-members-only/
Feel free to ask for specific species advice also.

Welcome aboard, D!
I would highly recommend making a trip to the gulf state park pier once and getting acquianted with some of the locals. Watch what they do, and ask questions. Let me know when you are coming, and I will gladly provide you some firsthand instructions and hook you up on a big fish if I'm available. Once you decide what targets you want to go after, we can determine the gear style you should invest in. Fish on, brother!

Or, as an alternative, contact Peir#r on the forum. He has started a land-locked fishing guide service. Best $100 any new salt water fisherman could ever spend. I've almost spent that much on wasted bait over the years when I was trying to get started catching "something."
