Any tips?
I've been coming done to the pier for the past few years, usually at least a few trips each year, I'll be back down there next weekend, hoping to finally get my first king, i've managed to land just about every other fish you can normally catch from the pier but a king has still avoided me, any tips on bait, time of day, ect... that will increase my chances on a king hookup?

Mornings and evenings are best as the sun can be grueling but anytime of the day, you can catch them. Look for south winds and clear water. LY's, frozen cigar minnows, ballyhoo etc One may work better than the other one day, Lures such as Yo-Zuri crystal minnows and Rapala X-Raps are great. Rigs, it can all be personal preference, but leader wire (Such as Malin or AFW....don't buy the black walmart ones with snaps and crap on them) I like 27lb. AFW single strand wire, #4 3x Lazer Sharp Treble, and a Billfisher matte black 80b swivel. Tie your preferred knot from main line to swivel, then use a haywire twist to connect the wire to the swivel and hook.
You will get multiple responses as everyone has their own preference on terminal tackle that works for them. The best thing you can do is use the search function in the top right hand corner of this website to find a plethora of info for ya. Also, stopping by J and M tackle and tell them what you want to fish for, they will "hook" ya up with what you need and will use that works. Watch people when you get on the pier and see what what is working and just keep fishing until you find what works for you.

Thanks stephen, I've been using a #2 treble and 60lb wire so maybe I've been going too big, the one time I did manage to hookup on a small king was early morning on a frozen cig and it pulled the hook, I'll try a lil lighter tackle and do more morning fishing this trip

I will finchaser, always learn something new every time I come down, that's why I keep coming back, not only is the fishing good but the locals are the friendliest and most helpful of anywhere I've been
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
