    AL Fishing License Clarification

    Good evening,

I need some clarification for my fishing license needs for a family trip at the end of Dec. To save time, I was thinking of ordering my fishing license online, but AL has quite a few more fishing license options than WI.

I'll only be in AL for 6 days, so I think I can get the 7 day trip Saltwater license. But can I fish from the pier with that license or would I need a separate the pier license also?

I will fish in the the Little Lagoon and from the surf, not sure if I'll go from the pier yet. I'd appreciate any guidance on the proper license to pursue.

    Thanks in advance

You do not need a separate license to fish the pier if you get the 7 day saltwater license. A pier license would not allow you to fish the lagoon or surf.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

When we were down, I picked up a card at JM, size of business card. Called the number on the card, provided credit card #, was given license # and that was salt water license. I just wrote the number on the little card and stuck in my wallet.
A very user-friendly process, if I am not mistaken license good for most every where except for Shelby Lake, locals can clarify.

    Shelby Lake is considered Freshwater.

Everyone else is correct, buy the regular 7 day saltwater license and you can fish the beach, pier, lagoon, pass, etc..
You still need to pay the entry fee for the pier though!

To fish Shelby Lakes (east of Hwy 135) you still need a permit from the state park office.

What, if any, special angling restrictions apply to Lake Shelby?
*A park permit is required and freshwater license. They can be purchased at the pier, park headquarters, and the campground. $2 per day $7.50 per week 17.50 per month and $35 per year.
