Probably ok for trolling off shore but need spinning for casting on pier.Something in the range of 5000 to 10000 class reel with around 300 yards of 15 to 17lb mono. The 8 or 9ft roods are the most used also needs to be medium heavy not to stiff for throwing frozen cigar minnows.

The Battle combos from Penn at J&M Tackle on Canal Street are pretty reasonable. They have all different sizes.Everybody seems to like the reels.

check on Pensacola Fishing Forum under the "Fishing Gear and Tackle" section. They have some good used combos from experienced users selling at a lot better price for reason of upgrades... just my 2 cents.

J & M has 7' and 8' Profile rods that that you can match up with a spinning reel that will hold 300 +/- yards of 15 to 17# mono or mono backed with braid. Tell the folks at J & M how and what you want to target and they will show the options you should consider. All kinds of combs to choose from too.

several good rods and reels for sale on the forum as well…
Well, after several hours making phone calls, I was able to track down a certain manufacturer’s service center in California. Thankfully, they agreed to send out my needed parts. These were left over...
You would think I would know this!
