New or used? If new I would say in the $75 to $90 dollar range would be fair.

I have one and love it. Bought it at Bass Pro on sale for $80 (reg $90). Use it for trout and spanish. Have a 440 I use for flounder and whiting. 2 of my favorites. $70

    Screw it. Let's ride.

Thanks guys ,Pulled the trigger on the new one listed on ebay for $63.99. Planning to use it for spanish. What do you think about spooling it ? 10# or 12# line ???? What would be a good rod to match ?

i'd personally go with 8... will help casting and alot of kings are hooked when fishing for spanish... that extra capacity would be nice...

what kind of baits do you plan on fishing? (baby ly, or gotchas, yozuris, spoons, etc)

Give a googan a king, and he can eat for a day. But teach a googan how to kingfish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years

The 450 SSg holds 300 yards of 10# mono which should be enough for most kings that may take a Spanish bait. I'm with you though Tyler I'd go with 8#. I have a 440SSg loaded with 6# line for the very same reasons you've mentioned, plus I'm of the opinion that live bait behaves better and artificials have better action on lighter lines.

+1 on peaches' and drh's suggestion.
I'm 6# on 440 mounted on 7' gloomis med light/ex fast popping rod for flounder, trout & whiting. That bad boy is hyper sensitive to light bites and worth every dollar I paid for it.
8# on 450 mounted on bass pro 6'6" bionic blade med heavy/fast for spaniards and anything larger that might be an opportunity feeder. 450 has plenty of ass for smaller kings, reds, or jacks if you let the drag do the work for you.
    Screw it. Let's ride.

No real need to get fancy or extravagant with this reel. Just get a cheap off the rack 6.5 or 7 footer.
