Remoras as table fare, reported to be good
I found this on the P;cola forum by eym sirius about eating Remoras.....
J
So I thought - what the heck? I like to occasionally try fish not typically considered food fare, with the question, "why not".
I brought back a remora, filleted it and fried it up.
It was easy to clean, with a regular bone structure so that the fillet was boneless after removing the lateral line. The taste (mild, no aftertaste) and texture (firm white meat) were both excellent. In appearance and taste, the remora was similar to triggerfish.
The downside: The yield, per fish, was surprisingly small, so you have to catch big ones.
Remoras at the end of piers feed on bait-fish throwbacks, but attached to large predators, they feed on scraps and waste-remnants. Because of that fact I'd recommend frying to avoid the possibility of undercooking. After removing the lateral line/dark red area, the remaining flesh was very appealing, which I found quite surprising .
OK, so I will try it when I get there next week

It is true, they are very tasty but yield little due to thick skin, an unusually large backbone, and a larger than expected body cavity.

I'm certain you'll have no shortage to clean… I typically catch a half dozen per trip, and they're usually 3 feet long at least.

You can eat 'em, but you can never be sure where they've been. Stay clear of "remora cheeks" fish, and also those Haywire liposuction remoras ...

See, y'all thought I was bad. I'd never make you look as something like that. Besides, everybody would know what my tattoos were then.
I gotta believe that he put the remoras there himself and didn't get the photographer to do it. Shudder.

I'd swap places with the remora.

Sorry to be the one to break the news to y'all George, but I think she'd rather have the Ramora. I suppose this means you will eat all the doughnuts before I get there as punishment, but I'm just being honest!
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
