Homemade Wannabe Donuts and Yeast Rolls
Dough:
4 Tablespoons Shortening (melted)
6 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
2 Cups warm water
2 Packages Dry Yeast (not fast rising)
Mix all of the above until yeast is dissolved and let rest for 5 minutes.
Add the following and mix until well blended:
5 cups All Purpose Flour
2 eggs-beaten
2 teaspoons salt
Let rise until doubled in size-about 1 1/2 hours.
Flatten out on a floured cutting board until about 1" thick.
You could use a muffin pan but I just spooned the dough onto an oiled cookie sheet.
Bake at 450 for about 12-14 minutes or until brown. Brush with butter or dip in seasoned liquid from BBQ shrimp.
I had a small amount of dough left over and decided to see if I could do something tasty and unhealthy with it. So of course I rolled into small strips and FRIED it in oil at about 350 F flipping them once brown on one side. Drain on paper towels and let cool slightly.
Donut Glaze
1 cup of powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract
2 Tablespoons Milk
Whisk the ingredients together for a few seconds to make the glaze.
Dip one side of the pastry in glaze and place on wire rack to cool and to solidify. Repeat with the other side.
