While technology is great I don't believe we need to become dependent on it. I still think there is a limit to the amount of technology we should use. Personal communication skills are being lost to emailing, texting, etc. The value of a book is nearly gone since the e-readers have become popular. This trend scares me!
I am not going to get on my soapbox about this but just think what would happen if a "major disaster" were to occur where there was no internet/power for an extended period (months/years). Yes, many backup plans are in place so I won't argue with you there, but who are the back up plans for? You? Me? No, big brother will be fully operational and all who have placed full dependence on technology will be at his mercy.
No amount of technology will be able to replace the ability to think critically. A skill that is taught in school in all the subjects the technocrats think are obsolete. You wanna become a slave to your creation? Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clark saw it in 1968 with 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Far more than that, I worry about becoming a slave to our government as was seen in the book "1984" by George Orwell Nineteen Eighty-Four - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ironically we're discussing this topic over the web.

You're right. Technology is a wonderful tool. But nothing more than a tool to make our lives easier. As long as you are able to think critically, you can decide to log off any time you want. If you allow yourself to become a drone and blindly believe technology is the solution to all life's problems, you become controlled by its dark side--addictive gaming, targeted ads, unlimited access to porn, etc.
Wait... Unlimited access to porn is available??? The dark side... is that where you get it??
Good grief, the kids screw off at school... we all did it and we try it at work and on, and on, and on. Every generation is convinced their offspring are the dregs, and there is no hope for the world. Yet they invent, and build, and lead... and live.
