What's your story?
I left my hometown when I was 18. Living in different places my whole life has created a fascination for hearing the stories of people who have stayed -- especially in great places like Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Ten years of living in Branson, MO brought me the chance to hear "shepherd of the hills" type stories again and again -- only better.
Seeing the farm land around makes me think some of your families may have spent generations there. Others may be life long residents, or nearly so.
It may not work, but I think it would be fascinating to read some of your family experiences. Short form, of course, but when/how your family came there, why/how you stayed, perspective on all the changes/growth/development, etc.

Re: What's your story?
Born and raised in Starkville, MS and i have been around the world and back found plenty of places i liked better than here. Most any place with sandy beach and good fishing near by i would take over this place but finding a job there is a bit difficult haha! I would love to live in the GS/OB area...

I know it doesn't rhyme as well, but should bred come before born? Just saying..... :moon:Screw it. Let's ride.

Re: What's your story?
According to the song "My home's in Alabama," it is " southern born and southern bred."
The recent discussion of the name changes at the pass and some of the "remember when" stories got me thinking about this thread. My family came to south Arkansas after the War between the states. Made oak barrel staves until the bank failed during the depression. Grandparents ran the post office. Dad worked at the paper mill. But very few of my generation stayed after the mill closed. Education and life took me elsewhere.
Still love hearing stories from others...especially the ones who stayed put.

I was born (under an azalea bush) BEFORE I was bred (sired two chilrens of my own).
jus sayin...oke1:
An someday (when I'm done) they will bury me in the 'hallowed ground' of my home town.
Sorry to trample on your fine thread here Rich, but HAD to clarify something ;-)
Carry on... :ring(RETIRED) mostly.

Re: What's your story?
Born in Meridian, MS (while my family lived in Mobile, go figure!?!?), spent my early years living in Mobile out Three Notch Road, family moved (against my wishes I might add) to MS. The day after I graduated high school, I moved to Gulf Shores. Life took me away once again to OK and finally to WV where I pastor. Looking forward to my trip back down to LA in June! Come on June, get here!!
God bless!
