Traffic (or "The I-10 Parking Lot Discussion")

Anyone heading this way from the west might want to look at the ALDOT webcam for I-10 west-bound at the tunnel.
At 10:30 am it was already backed up for miles!
Taking I-65 North to I-165 south and over the Cochrane Bridge down the Causeway and up onto I-10 might be quicker even though it add 10 miles ot the trip.

We're coming in late tonight (like 0030 hrs). Last weekend we left heading North just as all the kids from Hangout were checking out of their motels. I'm going to avoid early afternoon travel at the end of Holiday weekends. Big bottlenecks at the bridge and Loxley.

I always try to request a late checkout to help avoid the bumper to bumper trip back to I-65 North. I hear at the pier back in April that the Foley Beach Express would be open all the way to I-10 soon. Any truth to that?

I think it will bypass most of the 35mph speed traps. Maybe some day it will link up with I65 as well.

On a side note. Those of you that may be headed down south from the north, I65 south bound around mile marker 328 devolved a sinkhole. Only one lane going south. To avoid this backup you can exit off at the 334 go right about 3 miles go left on hwy 31 south, go through Decatur into Hartselle turn left on Thomson Rd. go about 1 mile and take the ramp to i65 south.

And I-65 N is closed through Sunday likely, due to a firey wreck involving two 18wheelers crash & burn with hazmat on board.
