"Thunder on the Gulf"???
We will be arriving on June 2, last day of the race. I am needing info about race. How far up and down the beach do they race. How close to shore are they. If we arrive around noon, how far away would we expect to park. How crowded? Any other info appreciated. I can't find enough info on the internet to tell if it would be worth our evening watching the boats. I will have three teenagers with me, and they are interested, but don't think they would like it if we were so far away that they couldn't see the boats very well. They like to FEEL the power!! Sorry for so many questions and thanks for any and all info!

Only thing I learned is where the race is! This website answers none of my other questions.

It has been a couple of years since they have had it in our area, and in the past it was in August, so no idea myself how crowded it will be. To be honest though, I didn't know until yesterday that they were starting it again. They are close enough to see from the beach, but as to feeling it, no idea. Best bet if you don't have a condo in the area rented is one of the state park public areas in Orange beach. They will most likely be crowded but not sure how badly.

It's pretty cool, I watch the coppers more than the boats though. I don't remember exactly where we watched it from but I don't think parking was an issue. The beach will have plenty of room. The course is pretty big. So in a nutshell, your teenage boys would probably enjoy it and it shouldn't be much hassle.

I took these a few years ago with an old iPhone. To give you an idea of the distance.

You may be able to park at the Publix shopping center at the intersection of 182 and 161. It is about in the middle of the race course and there is a big chunk of unoccupied beach across from Publix. That’s where we used to watch.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replies and pics!! Kids are going crazy ready to go.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
