though week
As many of you know but just wanted to post that my wife Leslie passed away Wednesday evening. Thanks first for all your prayers over the last 15 month if not many more as she was sick for a long time.
On another different note, my daughter has been wanting to look for a 3 bedroom condo to buy(I would rather get a piece of hunting property here in middle TN) and I just would love some feed back fro those of you who live in the area to tell me what you think. She wants to use it about 3 weeks out of the year and rent to friends. Are we better just to rent as needed or are there advantages/disadvantages to buying vs renting? Thanks for your honest responses.

Sad for your pain. My wife and I faced the same question 25 years ago when I retired. Our decision was to build a home on Lay Lake in central Alabama and live there full time. We rent a condo when we want to go to the beach and usually spend 4 to 6 weeks a year there when the weather is most enjoyable and the fishing doing well. For us we made the right decision and do not have ownership headaches like maintenance, cleaning, or condo fees. Also no hurricane worries!

I don't know you, but have spoken with you here several times over the years. I'm very sorry for your loss. My aunt has a condo in gulf shores (ive never stayed there but several other family members do regularly and they really enjoy it). She has no problem renting it out, and has a regular family that rents it for 3 months each year. Not sure she makes much money on it after covering her expenses, but she wouldn't keep it if she didn't at least break even on it.
