    Smoke Alarms

I change out the battery and hit the test button every fall (time change) In the spring I check the test mode on all 8

In the 13 years we have lived in this house I've never once missed it and I don't cheap out on the battery

So at 2:10am today when they went off I hit the deck in full alert mode , Grabbed the fire extinguisher I keep in the hall closet.

Busting through the house trying to find the source, First floor, Second floor, no smell of smoke,no fire WTH

Than they started to go randomly and chip and go off , First thing we did was swap out all the batteries , of course we didn't have enough batteries.

So my wife said she would go get some, nearest all night place is a 7-11 not to far , I'm pulling out all the batteries and unplugging them.

She comes back with the only 3 they had, They were 7-11 store brand (china) well I couldn't get them to fit . There a bit longer

So now she's off to find more, it's 3:30 now , almost a hour passes and she's back ,got batteries now , So we put them in and plug them in.

Done, we go back to bed and try and salvage some sleep, Then they go off randomly again. Now I'm really ticked off. I unplug, pull batteries

Well now that I'm up may as well have coffee, Now to the net and look up the make and model, Low and behold they say they should be replaced every ten years.

The sensors start to fail after that and they all will start to go off randomly to let you know, Good feature ..... but not at 2:10am

Was at Lowe's when they opened , Now all replaced and its quite.

So if yours are older than 5 years check the manufacturers website a see if you need to update them. Or wait till 2am and they'll let you know

Mine did the same thing last night. I looked it up before replacing the batteries (since I had done that only a few monts ago, and mine are wired in, so they should only need replacement every few years), so I already bought the replacements.

One night, My dad was cooking steaks inside and did not turn on the vent! Could barely breath. Plus, my thumb got cut wide open by nicking it on a broken globe (that I had broke previously) In attempt to turn on the fan. Next thing we know, the smoke alarms start chiming off! Ours are extremely loud. Five minutes later, The whole fire Dept. is at our house.
My irritability level was though the roof.

In case anyone asks, we cooked Beef and Tuna steaks and my Dad cooks a mean tuna steak!
