    Slugburgers

Just read about this regional food stuff here:

    https://www.atlasobscura.com/foods/s...er-mississippi

Anyone know where I can try one of these in the GS/OB area?

    Thanks!

    Never heard of a Slugburger.

But it sounds suspiciously like every cheap fast-food burger I've ever had.

    Did more research, found this:

The Slugburger Trail: 20 places you can find this regional treat in AL, TN and MS | AL.com

Have to see if Chillinfish has tried the one in his town.

No idea where you could find one near OBA, we have a place here in mid TN that was fashioned after old school Mississippi burger joints that serves them. They are made of pork instead of beef with a lot of soy meal mixed in-I believe the idea was to make a really cheap burger. They're not bad, I like a good cheese burger much mo' better.

I've heard of them but have never seen them on the menu in any restaurant down here.

Easy to make, just mix bread crumbs, ground oatmeal, rice flour or potato flour into your burger/pork. Season, add an egg & hand mix. Make into patties and fry.
Almost just like making meatloaf except you make a burger.

I have had Penn's and Willie Burger's just make your own. Just add bread and hamburger meat and deep fry. Add onion and mustard on a small bun. Just take out of the grease and on the bun.

Sounds like my kind of trashy food. Really does sound like fried meat loaf, and I'm a fool for meat loaf. And most anything fried. Or with lots of salt and butter on it.
