Thread: Skunked and befuddled

i havent had any luck down here turkey hunting and it does seem that i only see them during deer season. only promising land for gobblers ive seen has been in north Bama.

Every season same thing, turkeys hide in the bushes giggling at the old, befuddled Caucasian Conservative clinging to his religion & gun.
I'm starting to think George may actually be killing them in droves, but playing it to keep his turkey honey hole a secret. ;p

Turkeys are the dumbest critters on earth. I've seen them walk into a corner of a fenced pasture and just walk back and forth in the corner trying figure out how to get out. Won't fly over or walk down the fence line to look for an opening. Just go from side to side in the corner. And we spend thousands of dollars trying to kill them when you can buy a butter ball in the market for 40 plus cent a pound. Maybe their not the dumbest critters on earth.

world of difference in taste between a wild turkey and one of those steroid/chemical laced butterballs.

I agree. Deep fried wood rooster has a better taste than farmed turkey. Must be the worm grub tadpole grasshopper acorn elderberry diet.

I cannot laugh any harder than I just did

After careful study of the available data, I reached the conclusion that turkeys had become extinct in my part of Clarke County, but then about 6:00 p.m. a lone hen walked into the field in front of the camp and stood there looking forlorn---sort of like the last ugly fat man at the singles bar.

I spent four hours this morning sitting in a prime ambush spot---no naps, no books or any other form of diversion---but I would have had more action if I'd been sitting on a firkin at the Gulf Shores public beach. My back hurt, my butt itched and my contacts got scratchy but all I saw were bugs and little birdies. Ahhhh, the sublime excitement and joy of hunting turkeys. I've been hunting them a week now and I still haven't scared one off the roost, or anywhere else, and I've won several awards for disturbing sleeping turkeys in the past. It's one of my best talents---right up there with eating peppermint ice cream and making sardine sandwiches.

I'll get after them again in the morning, though I don't have the foggiest idea of where to start looking. Looks like rain Sunday, so I get to sleep in.

Don't feel too bad George, after seeing those turkeys at the start of the week, that was it.
Ran all over Southern AL, FL Panhandle and Southwestern GA and never saw another.
I saw a yote, several deer, a passel of hogs & lots of rednecks, but no more turkeys.

Went this morning, had to end it around 8:30 because of rain. Heard 3 birds gobbling but couldn't get any to come in. These turkeys are driving me insane.
