Rod/Reel Matchup

I already have an unmounted Penn Spinfisher V 5500, the Wife got me a St. Croix Mojo 11' surf spinning rod for Christmas.

I would like to marry the two, loaded with 17# Sufix. Question to the experts, Will this make a good usable unit for surf fishing? No specific target fish, just chunking and hoping.

Opinions/suggestions welcome

17# is overkill on a 5500 (IMO). I'd go with 12#, or even 10#.

I dunno, 17# may not be a bad line capacity (about 200 yards?)

Should cast just fine.
IF you discover that 200 yards of 17# isn't enough line, just respool with 15#
That is still plenty strong enough for bull reds and such.

I would load it full of 20# braid and let it rip.

ONLY, I didn't know that till after I'd had one for a while and was not all that happy with the distance I was getting, So a email to customer service gave me that information,So with braid it's awesome,but that's not what I wanted,had to get another for mono.
