PIER PICNIC from David Allison
The GS Pier Spring Picnic will be Saturday, May 7th, 2016. Normally the Picnic is the last weekend in April, but we're moving one week later hoping for warmer waters and better fishing. This is your Picnic, to enjoy and fellowship with friends so please plan and take advantage of a great time on the gulf coast. For those of you not familiar, the annual picnic was started many years ago on the old pier by Lisa Lindy's mother, by nailing a paper plate on the octi shed so people could write down on what they were bringing to contribute to the food etc. Back then, the picnic date was much later in the summer. Spring however, is undisputedly the best fishing of the year when the water temperature brings bait, Spanish, Cobia and Kings back to the northern Gulf. The temperature that brings all local fishermen to the pier is read from buoy #42012 at 68°~ 72°F.

I'll bring venison taco pie and sweet apple coleslaw. If I get a couple of reds, I'll make redfish chowder.

I know for a couple of years John G brought BBQ. IF, just if, a person was able to kill a 50 to 70 lb pig and bring it down would anyone have a smoker to cook it whole? Did that at a wild game dinner at church last month and it went over really big. I'm coming down 4/30 to 5/7 just to go to the picnic. If not, I could, most likely, bring a ham off of one cooked before I come and frozen.
On a related note, got some trail camera pics a couple of days ago....Like the lion laying down with the lamb...

Nice pics off the trail cam. I'm totally amazed at how the hog shows no fear of the bear!

I'd love to be there, but that's Mother's Day weekend. I know, I know...there's always a reason. But my reason keeps me up in Tennessee
Hope you guys have a blast. I enjoyed hanging out with you guys the last time.

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
