I have often been accused of overthinking, so here goes. Would a grinder with a chute help? Still need a dose of friendly education to help.

You are probably right, DD. LMAO at the way you summed it up. Like I said, overthinking all the time, I'm told.
Someone said "I didn't think these birds would eat something that wasn't good for them."
The only pelican I've met that was picky about his food is Sam. If you give Sam anything other than a fresh live wiggling fish, Sam will either throw it back at you or toss it overboard.
These young birds however, will eat pretty much anything that smells like fish. When they are fed skeletons, skin and scales they may get full, but not nourished. It is a death sentence, they won't fish if they can stay on welfare.
When I passed the cleaning tables today a couple guys cleaning sheepies and feeding scraps to the pelicans. I told them to just throw the scraps overboard and stop feeding them. If they want the scraps bad enough they will go after them. If you feed them on the deck they will just sit here and crap all over the place. If they have to dive to get the scraps they might opt for catching fish. They started throwing the scraps in the drink after I talked to them about the effect on the birds and the deck.
The juveniles are now roosting on the roof of the mid platform, so wear a hat and don't look up when go through the area!

And there were that many more taking a communal crap on the mid roof
