Ordinarily wouldn't post a topic like this

On Monday I went in for my 50 something colonoscopy and they found a huge polyp (6 cm)--think a bit bigger than a golf ball. They removed most of it and sent it to the pathologists.
I've been sweating bullets ever since as a polyp that size has a pretty good likelihood of being malignant. Doc just called and said the pathology report was clear - no cancer. How's that for a birthday present?

The reason I'm posting this is he said that if left alone, it would most likely turned cancerous in the next year or two.

IF YOU ARE 50 AND HAVEN'T HAD YOUR COLONOSCOPY, GO GET THE DAMN THING DONE!!!!!!.

It wasn't that big of a deal. The fentanyl (synthetic narcotic) makes you not care and the versed makes you forget you didn't care. The absolute worst part of it is 24 hours of clear liquids and the massive cleaning out of your colon the afternoon before. I don't remember a thing after they gave me the drugs. Again, go do it. For yourself and your family.

Glad you got the good news!
You are right, drinking all that Liquid Plumber is the worst part.

That's fantastic DD! And happy b-day as well. I'm only 30 going on 31 but I have thought about getting one done before 40...just to be extra cautious.

Thanks. Just let your doc be your guide. If no family history, I think they have pretty much established that 50 is soon enough. Wish I had done it soon as I turned 50 but like most guys, was scared of it. Piece of cake compared to 48 hours of near terror.

When I had mine done I had my wife go first to make sure it was OK. She survived OK, so I gave it a try. It went fine, not to worry. The only thing was the way the staff looked at each other and grinned when I woke up. I wondered what I had said. I assumed I had been asleep for the procedure, but they informed me I had been alert and responsive during the procedure, but couldn't remember it due to the sedating drugs. Aside from the embarrassment, it's easier than giving blood sometimes is. I was afraid I had behaved like an a$$h01e, but the staff didn't seem offended. I guess they see lots of them, and know them inside out. Have it done; it can save your fishing life.

First time I had versed was for a heart cath. The cath lab techs said I had them rolling on the floor laughing. They wouldn't tell me what I said, but hinted I was telling really dirty jokes.

On Monday, I told the endoscopy nurses about it and their exact words were, "What happens in endo stays in endo. You'd be surprised what we hear."

Glad you came out OK. Yeah, you need to keep a yo-yo or something by the toilet so you'll have something to do during the cleaning out process. The rest is good drugs.
