Don't sell that kayak or boat yet.
My buddies dad was in the same position back around 1997, very active & never had any trouble until he felt dizzy on a ladder at a job site one day. Had surgery 3 days later. Came out of it a whole new man, more energy & stamina once he recovered from surgery. Hadn't had trouble since, he's around 80 years old now. Same with my ex father-in-law.
Best therapy is get back to life as soon as you can walk out of the hospital, get back to walking, paddling, etc...
You'll be back on the pier before you know it.
I'll say a prayer, but I don't think you will need it!Carl

X3 what Carl said.

My dad had quadruple bypass twice at University of Alabama hospital in B'ham. Twelve years between each. He followed most of the instructions after the first one and fewer after the second. Like folks said, keep everything except the bad habits and you will enjoy everything better than before.
Father-in-law had his bypass at age 80 and he will be 96 in December. Still mean as hell but continued with all of his activities he enjoyed before.
Good luck with the surgery and expect to be home in a few days.

Make sure you absolutely follow doctors and nurses instruction. If all goes well you'll be out of the hospital in 5days, depending on other co-morbidities. If you are a diabetic that has to be in check for the rest of your life for sure. Also, if you smoke make sure you never do it again. I worked as an RN on a cardiac floor where we recovered CABG patients and trust me if you suck it up and just do as you're told, get up and start moving as soon as they let you, you will be out of there and home quickly. DO NOT get rid of you stuff, in just a few months you'll be able to do pretty much everything you were doing before and more.
Also, you are a prime example of why people should have Calcium Scans. If you'd had one done 5-10yrs ago they would have found the beginnings of CAD and with diet change and medications you may not be having this by-pass.
praying for you Sundown, I'm sure everything will go fine. Good luck!

After your open heart you will be good. It is almost a out patient procedure now. Your walking is a big plus. Couple of things to remember. 1 keep your chest pillow close and get up when they tru to get you up. Good Luck and May God Bless you your family and the surgeon.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
