ONLY DQed???????????????????
We witnessed the poorest display of SPORTSMANSHIP that I have seen in 10 years of participating, 25 years of coaching and 65 years of watching Sporting events. When Ray was DQed for targeting Sims he should have also been thrown in prison for attempted homicide. That was a flagrant act, with intent to do bodily harm to Sims. Ray would not play Football for me anymore, up coming Bowl games or not. Life is to short to have to put up with players with that type of mentality, lack of discipline and self control. There is no way sports are to be played with the intent to harm the opponent. Rays mentality is the reason he is as good as he is, but he must be able to have the discipline to control his actions. The "hit" was way to late, and he most certainly could have turned his head, and helmet, to one side or the other. There is no excuse for this type of display of Sportsmanship.
MO. fans, and I have a son that lives in St. Louis, I have nothing against you, the rest of the MO. football players, the administration of the football program, or the MO. Athletic Program. They have done a wonderful job and are to be commented, but I cannot accept the acts of only individual, Ray!!!!!!

It didn't take an expert lipreader to decipher his feelings on the way out, either.

However, back in the day, that play would have earned him a high five from his coach. Think Madden's Raiders back in the 70s, Deacon Jones and his famous helmet slap, Dick Butkus clothes lining a running back, or even more recently, some of the licks Ronnie Lott laid. My oldest son's high school coach was a tight end for State in the 80s and said Cornelius Bennet hit him in the head with a forearm once so hard once his helmet turned around backwards. Thought for a minute he'd gone blind. Not passing judgment one way or the other--it was just part of the game.
I'd say the game and attitudes about the level of violence tolerated have changed considerably.Screw it. Let's ride.

Im gonna stick on the side of the fence that even In slow mo its 1 second from release of ball to contact so in live speed its under a second... so with that being said he used his hands at last half second and its on outright bs ejection call . Ya maybe a flag but hell the qbs from high school to nfl should all wear red jerseys and flags now because you cant touch them EVER

I guess you watched a different game than I did. It was a late hit. That being said, I do not believe that his ejection affected the eventual outcome of the game.

I agree with you guys . And will go a step further. If you don't want to play or watch contact sports ,take up ping pong . Not there is any thing wrong with ping pong . Just my humble opinion .

Many, many years ago I saw Alex Karras on The Tonight Show and during the interview he sad that when you see snot bubbles coming out of the quarterback's nose, you know you made a good hit!
May not be an exact quote, but pretty damn close! It has got to be on Youtube somewhere, but I can't find it.

Well, I'm not worth a squat at ping pong, it's a hand-eye coordination thing, but I did play football and wrestle in college (All American) and I did coach for 25 years, 1 State Championship, 1 Runner-up, 1 5th place finish in a 1 Class system. I'm in 5 different Hall of Fames including the National Wrestling HOF. What I saw in the Bama - MO. game did not please me. "Targeting" is hitting a defenseless player, any player, above the shoulders with the crown of the helmet, forearm or hand. The time element (the 1 sec. rule) is not factor but safety is a factor. The rule has been in effect for a long time but enforcement has been stressed since 2013 following all of the NFL lawsuits for head injuries. Head injuries is a major concern in all sports, except ping pong, and I think it very well should be. Three concussions and you are done participating in MN. I have no idea what the rule is elsewhere. I know of one kid, a State Champion his junior year, that received a concussion in football, the second one in wrestling and the third one came when he was hit in the head with a basketball in the gym during a noon hour. He was done his senior year. College coaches were drooling over him.
The thing that really concerns me, is the fact that the Gophers are going to have to play MO. in the Citrus Bowl. I don't think that it will be pretty, with or with out Korb in the Gopher line up. The Big 10 is not in the same league as the SEC conference, it's not going to be good. My humble opinion.
I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
