Non Fishing Related Advice - Easter Week

Guys, come down second year in a row...stay out by Ft. Morgan....We had been going to Apalachicola the past three years and Destin before that. I've got two girls 16 and 13 and need some advise.

1. Best place for fresh seafood....I like to grill out almost daily and we struggled last year finding anything that wasn't brought in from somewhere else or was fresh off a Sysco truck....SGI has me spoiled on this one I know.

2. Best place to get beers and food....restaurant/bar within 30 min of Ft. Morgan

3. Best off the beaten path thing to do (non tourist)

4. Don't waste your time or money on this?

5. What about just renting a boat to go play for half a day? Who would you see and where would you go....maybe to fish but to explore and island hop.

We're actually coming down over Easter and coming in on Friday and leaving the following Friday so missing the changeover by one day is going to be sweet.

#2 would be Sassy Bass, #3 would be tour Ft. Morgan or hike the Jeff Friend Trail.

+1 on Ft Morgan. It's hard to appreciate it without going in and walking around. I think of all the people over several generations that served there.

I'm a tourist but I have my likes. Billy's seafood in Bon Secour has never disappointed me. It's also a good place to buy small shrimp tails for bait at a good price if you can't find live.

In Gulf Shores I like Mikee's, The Steamer and DeSoto's. I order off the fresh fish board. Mikee's usually have a pound of blackened shrimp for 12 or 13 dollars that are hard to beat. I don't eat a lot of fried stuff but when I do I like the old Doc's Seafood on the back side of Orange Beach. They have good gumbo as well and it's close to J&M Tackle for a multipurpose trip!

Hangout if the girls want an adventure over Spring Break . It's usually hopping . Girl may be a little to young though.
Maybe a the Dolphin cruise .

Rental of pontoon boats at Bear Point Marina also we love to eat out on the deck also there at Flippers Restaurant. The Sunday Brunch at Shipps Harbor Grill at Sportsman's Marina. We have never been disappointed with the food there and they have a Bloody Mary Bar for the adults. Best place on the beach we like is Bahama Bobs great burgers and tuna sandwich. Also Original Oyster House and the Acme Oyster House.

Ok, all sound like great ideas. Driven through the fort but never stopped...I will change that this year.

Billy's in Bon Secour....been there once many moons ago...he's an interesting fellow if you can catch him around

Thanks for the boat information...and all the resturaunts. There's one out by Ft. Morgan that we ate at last year that was pretty good...I believe that was the sassy bass.

+1 on Original Oyster House, Flippers and Mikee's. We also like Cosmo's, Cobalt, Ginny Lane and Shrimp Basket. Of the 4 visits to Shipp's Harbor Grill we must have stunk really bad every time because the service was been terrible.

TinTop in Bon Secour is very good but a little pricey. Ride down and get fresh seafood at the docks and then stop at TinTop for dinner

+1 on Acme....they have char grilled oysters on the half with a garlic butter in the bottom of the pan and french bread on top for dipping. Not the cheapest oysters but they are very very good. If I wasn't 700+ miles away...I'd go get a dozen.

Not the best, but Tacky jacks has a great sunset view from the deck!

Ride on the Intercoastal Waterway, Wolf Bay, check out Robinson Island and Walker Island just north of Perdido Pass, maybe try some live shrimp or fiddler crabs near broken docks near 12 -15 feet deep water for sheepshead and redfish.

Something that I like to suggest that folks do is to take the ferry to Dauphin Island, go and see Fort Gaines, then drive out to the West End to have some sort of idea of what Gulf Shores/Orange Beach used to be...

What about going to see the blue angles practice....worth it?...Did I mention I hate crowds. I've been to the museum but never saw the angles fly. My daughters would kill me if I drag them to that museum again.

If you do ferry over to D.I., go see SeaLab Aquarium.

Staying near Fort Morgan you can get a treat from the Blues most any weekday they are practice flying.
They usually come in (from the east) at about 10 am and fly around for a couple of hours just off shore.

Pensacola NAS is a definite trip, check the Angels practice schedule, at the practice during the week they sign autographs after the practice.
