That area along Canal Road (on the east bank of the Canal) is currently popular with from-shore fishermen, bird watchers and picnicers.
Hopefully, those public use aspects will not be lost. But instead enhanced (to a park) and extended to the west bank!

Bridge spanning to the octagon
Sure would be nice if they went on and extended it all the way to the beach would prevent a lot of traffic around Tacky Jacks.
AKA, the bridge to nowhere. Until a road is built through the park to get to 182, nothing will help the cluster on the island.
I'm a retired local, so I know I'm being selfish, but I want no new roads coming down here. What happens as soon as they are built? Not better traffic, just more people. Every process has a bottleneck. Might as well be the roads. Otherwise, we won't stop growing until this place has been ruined. Again, I'm not a business owner and I know I'm being selfish, but I have lived here since 1978 and hate to see the continued growth. I'm sure I am in the minority in this one.
Green_Steel, from a resident who has been a resident since 1972, the place has already been ruint. Money speaks louder than anything or anybody, and there are a whole lot of places that haven't been paved over yet on the island. They won't stop. Like the old song said, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
I used to mess with Milton now and then and say” what they need to do is pave triple horse shoe ranch road-that would solve everything!” He wasn’t amused!
