Has a date been set for the pier picnic yet? Haven't seen anything posted and was trying to make it this year.

You are one sharp cookie, Mr. #r. Few people are aware of the Nature Conservancy.

Vision & Mission | The Nature Conservancy
The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Our vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives.
How do we achieve this mission and vision?

    • Through the dedicated efforts of our diverse staff, including more than 600 scientists, located in all 50 U.S. states and more than 35 countries.
    • With the help of our many partners, from individuals and governments to local nonprofits and corporations.
    • By using a non-confrontational, collaborative approach and staying true to our five unique core values.

That’s how The Nature Conservancy has done more than anyone else to advance conservation around the world since our founding in 1951.

There's an adult osprey in the nest now, building it up with twigs.

Just looked on there and there was a squirrel up right by the nest with a large osprey (female?) in the nest watching it closely. Methinks that squirrel was living dangerously.

Squirrels love bird eggs. Carl, we were volunteers for the Conservancy and Natural Heritage Program in our area for years, working on site restoration for sarracenia oryphilla. (spelling?). I loved working with those folks, and setting fires, though cutting firebreaks for weeks in advance was less fun than fishing. Still have my fire gear and my original shake n bake shelter. The State dropped the ball on the Heritage Program, at least up here, and the pitcher plant sites have grown back up with maples and sweetgums. Sad.
