Most outdoor facilities remain open for recreation
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) is making the following temporary changes to its business operations for the safety of our employees and the general public. The changes are in effect until April 6, 2020.

    • Alabama State Parks and associated facilities remain open with the exception of cave tours at Rickwood and Cathedral Caverns state parks. Some dining operations will be modified to limit close contact of guests. Park visitors are encouraged to follow all current hand washing and social distancing guidelines. For updates, please follow Alabama State Parks on social media. A social media directory is available at www.alapark.com/social-media-directory.
    • State Public Fishing Lakes remain open.
    • ADCNR shooting and archery ranges remain open.
    • ADCNR Wildlife Management Areas and Special Opportunity Areas remain open.
    • ADCNR’s state and district offices are closed to the public with the exception of the Marine Resources Division offices in Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island. Those offices will be open for commercial license sales only on Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    • ADCNR Law Enforcement Offices are closed to the public, but remain staffed to answer questions by phone. Contact information is available at www.outdooralabama.com. To report hunting or fishing violations, please call (800) 272-GAME.
    • Conservation Enforcement Officers will continue to patrol state land and waterways and render aid to the public.
    • Forever Wild tracts remain open for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, paddling, and hunting -- as permitted.
    • 5 Rivers Delta Resources Center facilities are closed, but the grounds remain open to the public during regular business hours for trail use and kayak launching.
    • Hunting and fishing licenses are still available online at www.outdooralabama.com, through the Outdoor AL mobile app, or at various license agents located throughout the state.

Due to the evolving nature of the pandemic, ADCNR recommends calling individual state parks and other facilities if you have questions about reservations or operational hours. Contact information can be found at www.outdooralabama.com.
ADCNR apologizes for any inconvenience during this time and we thank you for your cooperation.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources promotes wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama’s natural resources through four divisions: Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. City of Gulf Shores Takes Precautionary Steps to Minimize COVID-19 Exposure

Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft and the City Council have announced several precautionary measures to help ensure the health and safety of residents, employees and visitors. These steps are being taken in an abundance of caution and are targeted at minimizing the impact of COVID-19 in the community by limiting unnecessary exposure.
    Effective Wednesday, March 18:

    • The following city facilities will be closed to public access until Monday, April 6: Activity Center, City Store, Cultural Center, David L. Bodenhamer Recreation Center, Erie H. Meyer Civic Center, George C. Meyer Tennis Center, Gulf Shores Library and Gulf Shores Museum.
    • All city offices will be restricted to limited public access until Monday, April 6. Any person or business needing to apply for a Business License, Building Permit, submit plans for Planning and Zoning review, or conduct other city business should do so online by clicking here.
    • Anyone needing assistance not accessible online must contact the appropriate departmentby phone instead of visiting in person. A directory of department phone numbers is provided on the City website here.
    • All recreation programs, including youth sports, are suspended until Monday, April 6.
    • All city-sponsored events are cancelled until Monday, April 6, including the Waterway Village Zydeco and Crawfish Festival and 5K run.
    • The Public Involvement Meeting for the Waterway Village Multi-Modal Access Project scheduled for Thursday, March 19, has been postponed until further notice.
    • The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for March 25 has been postponed until further notice.
    • All Gulf Shores Municipal Court hearings scheduled between March 13 and April 16 will be rescheduled on a case by case basis for future dates. All cases that only require payment can pay online at www.gulfshorespay.com, or call 251.237.8711 to make a payment by phone. For assistance or additional questions please call 251.968.6780.

Gulf Shores public beaches, pavilions and outdoor recreation areas remain open. City officials urge everyone to follow the Alabama Department of Public Health’s (ADPH) recommended health and safety practices while frequenting these areas and during regularly scheduled daily routines. These include the following:

    • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
    • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers if hand washing is not possible.
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or cough or sneeze into your elbow.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.
    • Stay home when sick.
    • Stay away from people who are sick.
    • Practice “social distancing” by maintaining six feet of separation between you and other people.
    • Avoid gatherings of 10 or more.

“The measures we are implementing are being put in place to help minimize the risk in our community,” said Mayor Robert Craft. “We are closely monitoring this situation and will adjust these measures based on coordination with our local, state and federal public health agencies. Our top priority is and will remain the health and wellness of everyone in our community.”
The City of Gulf Shores will continue to provide public updates on our website and through social media. The public is encouraged to sign up to receive update notifications by visiting our website and clicking the “Notify Me” button.

Additional sources of information on COVID-19 can be found on the ADPH website here, and the Center for Disease Control’s website by clicking here.

The trip started in Nashville, Tennessee around March 13 and moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama around March 16.
After returning home from the trip, UW Madison's Health Services said that multiple students tested positive for COVID-19 and others are reporting similar symptoms.
