Mr. Thomas
Location: Top Secret
Time: 0600
Mission: To Kill Thomas
I set up on plot about 1/4 mile in from the highway, I had invited the owner of Southern Roost Game Calls along to film and demo his calls, I wanted to see how well they worked... and boy they did not disappoint. I think I fell in love with the Raspy Hen triple reed mouth call..
@ 0640 a distant gobble across the creek and bridge was heard(deep into the property). We worked a raspy old hen mouth call and within seconds there was 4 separate toms responding. All the birds were over 100 yards away.
@ 0700 The bird to my 10 o'clock closed the gap to about 75 yards when I believe a bobcat got him.. Some of the most horrific sounds and limbs and leaves snapping and flying around... never heard another peep out of him...
@0705 I noticed birds responding to some light calling to my 12, 2 and 4.
@0715 I saw 3 toms making a be line to Josh who was calling for me 2 pines back. They noticed our jake and hen decoy but got nervous when they saw the jake.
@0725 I took a long shot at the larger tom that was exiting the plot in a nervous manner. Missed/peppered...
@0800 After hiking 2.5 miles in we located some sign in the road where more toms had been strutting and dragging their wings this morning. We hear one more and never could get him pinned down
@0900 On the hike out the 1st group of toms were in the plot again...... ugh... Unable to put the mohican sneak on them, we decided to call it and setup in the plot across the road in the morning.
Was a successful day to be in the Lords woods. I have never been able to get a turkey, much less 3, to walk across wide gap metal bridge and cross a creek to get to me... My heart is still thumpin...

I'm so relieved. For a minute there I thought you were coming to the pier this weekend to knock me off. And btw do you know why a tom gobbles in the afternoon? Because he has a death wish. 2pm on a sunny afternoon is prime time.

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
