    Make you say "Dammit"

My brother-in-law came up from Bradenton to go turkey hunting with me and we had one of those, er, interesting mornings. We are laboring under adverse circumstances since there are fewer and fewer turkeys each year and we are both losing our hearing---as a matter of fact, we are the originators of the story about the two old dudes sitting on the porch watching the wind blow:
    "Sure is windy."
    "Naw, it's Thursday."
"Yeah, me too. Think I'll get a Coke. You want one, too?"

    But I digress.

We went to the best spot I could think of, and sure enough, one gobbled right on schedule. We got into a good setup without scaring him and he gobbled right back when I called to him, but he sat right there on the roost and continued to gobble for the next two hours, supremely confident in his masculine attraction, waiting for the hens to come to him. And they did, whereupon he dropped straight down out of his tree in amongst them and---I don't think I should relate such goings on on an open forum where impressionable children might stumble upon this. Suffice to say, it sounded like he was taking care of business in a way that would make a priapic sailor feel inadequate.

We'll try again in the morning.

Y'all better take advantage of my absence. I saw there has already been one good bite since I've been in the turkey woods.

After you said how hard of hearing your are I thought you were going to say that it was your brother-in-law gobbling and you dang near shot him.

People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Naw, he can't gobble worth spit. He can strut pretty good, though, you should see the trophies he's won shooting trap. It doesn't pay to be next to him on a pheasant hunt---he's good and he's quick.

I was a sailor once and I think I might have been priapic and don't know it. At least not by that word

I barely remember freshmen year of high school and carrying my notebook in front of me.

    The sap was running.

We had 4 toms strutting for about 15 hens 300+ yds out in the field. They weren't the least bit interested in my 1 lonely lil hen. They were still there when we left at noon. It's a long season. I believe I can call these birds when the hens go to sitting.

My work on this planet is done. I called one in for my B-I-L and the bird is in the cooler and headed south. This turkey only gobbled four times, but I managed to get him to fly down almost in Guy's lap. Well, maybe not quite that close, but close enough. Another two year old bird---they are God's gift to inept turkey hunters such as myself.

Now, I can head back to the coast and shut down what ever bite has started.
