    Just a few more weeks..

I've been watching an American Kestrel in my area that may make a nice bird for falconry.(yes i am a licensed falconer) Alabama has an amazing Falconry Association and they have hosted the 2nd annual "squirrel hawking" meet. The people that attended remind me alot of the regulars on the pier. Very knowledgeable and willing to help out when you have a question or problem.
While the Kestrel is not a large raptor, it has incredible foot strength and a pretty cool hunting style. Its also less intimidating than some of the larger raptors i've worked with.(less intimidating in the sense that my 3 year old thinks ALL hawks and falcons are hers and that she can work with them- the kestrel presents a safer bird to work with until she gets a tad older and learns not to get near the business ends)

Incredibly small(pigeon size) this hood is made out of super thin 3oz leather and hand sewn. It's not my best work, but it was my 1st, therefore I am proud of it.

The hood looks fine, nice job. I understand that the Kestrel is very intelligent, like his larger cousins.

Thanks bodebum! It took 8 hours to complete. I can turn some nice ones out now in less than 2 hours. They are intelligent and become very friendly around its falconer if trained properly. I'll post updates as training progresses.
