So will the pier stay open? Ours in Waveland closed a while back and never opened back up.

and I was really looking forward to going out and catching snapper............. oh well I got enough rod building jobs and painting stuff at the church mouse to keep me busy, this is gunna take a toll on the charter capts. though.

I hope I'm correct to assume this is way overblown by the computers (as are a LOT of things these days ;-)
Actually the forecast for the weekend looks like dryer, milder air moving in by early next week!
Hope it stays away. Don't want to spend my vacation in a hotel room
just tie yourself to the rail and hold on.....http://www.gulfcoastfishingconnectio...misc/windy.gif.....bring your trolley rigs though....http://www.gulfcoastfishingconnectio...isc/giggle.gif if you want to fish http://www.gulfcoastfishingconnectio...sc/fishing.gif during a storm http://www.gulfcoastfishingconnectio...isc/giggle.gif.....
As long as there's no lighting ill be out there.
Someone told me the pier was closed due to the government shutdown is this true
ok I told them that it wasnt but they just kept insiten so I thought id ask someone who really knows
Well, 'nothing to do' as far as operations, but the 'lame' federal government paid $2.3 million so the pier would exist today for you to stand on. That's considerably more than the $1.5 million the taxpayers of Alabama financed with a bond issue.
http://newsforthegulfcoast.blogspot....llions-in.html
With $4 million likely coming from the gas and oil royalties, the state plans to add about $1.2 million in insurance proceeds, $2.3 million of Federal Emergency Management Agency funding, and $1.5 million from a state park bond issue to come up with the pier's $9 million price.
True that, I guess.
Still, I meant definition #1 not #3...

Hmmm, maybe all those furloughed gubment workers will be at the pier this week?
Or next? ;-) lol
pick up surfing :)
Go fishing now Bill!

Back on the topic of the storm, even if it makes land-fall in southern mexico, what will the seas be like? I haven't been out in a storm in a boat in a while (and i mean A WHILE), are we talking 3-5' white caps? breaking? or swells?
Looks like i should be postponing my vacation a week
Storm still at the southern gulf has a 70% chance of forming should be hitting late friday Dangit no mahi and snapper fishing for me
There's so many variables that can affect the water condition, the weather experts are merely taking an educated guess when it pertains to storms. In my opinion the best option is to monitor the offshore buoys to see what they're reading. We've all seen something turn into nothing and nothing turn into something.
karen says 14 day snapper season must be shorter
Get ready to strap on the side of the rail lol just kidding will the pier be closed?Attachment 1119
With waves forecast 10 to 12 feet Saturday the park is likely considering their options.
If history serves, they may well 'err on the side of caution' and pre-emptively close the pier Saturday into Sunday depending on how bad the forecast (and conditions) are.
A couple of things come to mind with a landfall predicted near the time of astronomical high tide Saturday night waves could reach 15 feet (or more) and that is the threshold when damage could occur on the pier.
The other issue is flooding which could reach 3'-5' above (normal) sealevel but it likely will receed during the day on Sunday.
Strictly speculating here, but I would not be surprised if they started pulling panels and lights on Friday as they did for the last storm in the Gulf.
Again, just speculating, not based on fact.
My crystal ball says I'll be fishing on Monday....maybe further East and maybe catching catfish, but fishing. Might get to meet Miss Karen on the way down Sunday night. She sure calmed down a lot today on the Satellite view....but warm open water is in her immediate future.
You would have to be really hard core to go fishing this weekend whether the pier is open or not---too dang windy to cast, even a trolley rig, too rough to feel a bite and too muddy for anything to bite, anyhow, except maybe a remora or catfish.
On the other hand, I enjoyed fishing in the rain yesterday. It ran most folks off the pier, the fish were still biting some, and my rain gear slowed the water getting through just enough so it could warm up to near body temperature before it soaked all the way through my clothes. See y'all next week sometime.
Don't yall let that pier blow away just cause I hope to get down in 2 weeks,,,
