    Hotel information

I'm wondering if anyone has stayed at Country Inn & Suites in Gulf Shores and if they would recommend staying there. Also considering Microtel if anyone has any info please let me know.

    Chillin,
Haven't stayed there but friends, 2 groups, didn't care for it much. They told me rooms were small, breakfast wasn't great and needed updates in rooms. Not my opinion though.

Thanks Todd. I'm not expecting the Hilton but don't want bed bugs and mice. Just somewhere clean to shower and sleep on a late winter fishing trip.

Use Microtel if it's just you. It's not too far from the pier and if you need a relatively inexpensive clean room, but you don't care that the room is small ('cause you just need a place to sleep), Microtel may be just what you're looking for!

I've stayed at the Ecno Lodge and the America's Best Value Inn on the south side of Foley and they were both doable. The Ecno had a hot breakfast included that was good and the rooms were a little nicer. In the winter the drive to the pier or the beach isn't much different than staying out on the north side of GS....less than 10 minutes. If I have to drive to get to the fishing it doesn't matter to me if it takes a few minutes longer but some wouldn't like the extra 10 minutes I'm sure.

Id try vrbo, gulfcoastrentals.com call the owners direct and see what kind of a deal you can get. Its off season, and most people would be happy with some kind of rental income. It might be cheaper than the hotel.

I'm looking at the last week of February-first week of March. That's when condo rates go way up. Even with off season rental rates you get hit with VRBO's service fee, cleaning and taxes. It still may be worth looking in to. Thanks for the tip.

My son and I stayed at Country Inn & Suites in Gulf Shores in October. The room was OK and we had stayed there before. The room was clean and without bug problems. We never ate breakfast there because we were always going to the pier in the early morning. The TV in the room was really tiny to see across the room from the bed (I have monitors on my desk at work that are bigger), so watching football games was kind of crappy. The rates were high all over Gulf Shores that week because of Fall Break and our preferred place (Beachside Resort Hotel in Gulf Shores) was booked solid. It's not where I would take my wife for a getaway, but it's fine for a bunch of guys on a fishing trip, at least that was my experience.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I would be on the pier most of the time and McDonalds is just across the bridge.

I've stayed at Microtel. Not horrible but it was just me and not the Mrs. Tiny room but it has a bed and bathroom. I am in GS often and from what I know, Micro will likely be your cheapest option. There is a nice and new Hampton in the center of Gulf Shores that has rates in the upper 70s this winter. Just have to book in advance. If you are staying more than three days, you could very likely find a cheap condo. Good luck and best wishes.
