Hooked/Tangled birds...
Guys and Gals please NEVER just cut your line when a bird is tangled.
Friday morning was eventful with a couple kings decked, but there was also a Osprey and a Pelican decked.
The Osprey fed on young mans a drifted LY and thanks to Slim for helping with her.
Later on a Sam imposter flew into some braid and stripped 150ish yards of line out. The angler began to cut his line with the bird downed in the water. I told him he had to reel it in and remove the hook/line. Again, Slim to the rescue. She stayed around for a bit after hook removal then flew off.
It's good to see that many of the locals care enough to help get these birds released quickly and with care.

A helper makes this job a lot easier than doing it alone.

Orange Beach Wildlife Center and Management Program

Thanks to volunteer Jim Brown and intern Thomas Rossman II for going out and capturing this poor entangled pelican. This rescue was made possible due to the cooperation with Orange Beach Police Department Marine Unit. Without their help we could not have gotten the pelican as it was inaccessible by land.We are hopeful for a full recovery, however this pelican was very badly entangled in fishing line, hooks and weights. The line was embedded for several days before we were able to successfully capture.
Let’s make sure we are properly disposing of our fishing line, bait and concealing our catches so pelicans and other shore birds don’t steal them and associate people with food. Remember please do not feed any wildlife!

From OBA FB page...
Thanks that’s Jake Waits, Garrett Pollan, Charles Blaylock, and another beach goer for rescuing this entangled pelican. Also the fisherman who’s line the pelican caught helped in the untangling. Awesome job guys!!!

I truly hope that those are separate rigs, one with heavy mono and the 2 oz. weight for - I don't know, stingrays or other bottom feeders and a separate one for the jig and worm thingee with the --- humongous snap/swivel contraption. Still, I'm with you - what were they thinking? What were they going after and did someone recommend those (hopefully) two separate set-ups?
I think that these are potential students for PIER#R University!

You see some amazing things on the pier (rigs) let alone all along the beaches and bays....we don't see

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
