Here's your sign----
Maybe it's just me, but there seem to have been an extraordinary number of tourists asking questions the past few days. Not that I mind, but my concentration is limited and it often derails my train of thought. Maybe it's my weird fishing cap, suspenders and Haywire flag fluttering above an overstocked pier cart that draws 'em to me. With Shrimp Festival weekend coming up, I've been giving some thought to making up a big sign to hang below my flag that would have some answers for them, such as:
I don't know. I just got here.
It's a remora.
Advice---Free
Good Advice---$1.80
Fish stories---$.50
Listening to your fish stories---$4.25
If your stories involve walleyes or muskies---$22.00
It's another remora.

No, I've never been eaten by a shark.
No, I don't have a spare leader (see tackle prices)
It's used to catch bait.
About 25 feet deep.
If y'all can think of any other answers I need to add, please let me know.
(At the cleaning table, when I'm filleting a bunch of Spanish or whatever, I love it when somebody stands there and watches for a while and asks, "Are them there fish good to eat?"
I always answer, "No, I'm just filleting them for my cat."

At the cleaning tables while fileting my catch and before the " are those good to eat question", I'm frequently asked what kind of fish are those. I'm inclined to answer rainbow trout, but then again I remember I was once walking in their shoes. Good post Mr. Wire.

Good Job Haywire!!! I really enjoyed reading your post, except the one about the walleyes & muskies, but you have to realize that we do not have any ramoras and sharks up here in MN. It was a great post it started my day out right. THANK YOU!

I’ll be sliding into town March 10-14. Can you have it warm and sunny for me then? And also, how about having the fish biting??? :D
