    HELP! with GPS editing

I used to be able to edit files of reef locations (giving shorter names and shortening the list, grouping reefs, etc.) in EXCEL and then put them back in files for Garmin and Humminbird, but since switching to windows 10 I cannot get it to work (don't know if that is the problem).

    Using GPSBabel.

Also cannot get the GPX file from Outdoor Alabama to download.

If i download the .csv file from Outdoor AL, the GPS coordinates will not translate - only zeroes for location even though I can see them in the .csv file with a text reader or EXCEL.

GPSBabel successfully translated one .kml file, but will not do it again (have rebooted, redownloaded GPSBabel).

Is anybody having any success with this lately in windows10?
People are shocked to see sharks in the water around here.

If you see natural water taste it. If it's salty it has sharks in it. If it's fresh it has alligators in it. If it's brackish it has both.

Nevermind. Found a problem and a workaround.

What did you end up doing? I've used GPStoPOI in the past to rename stuff. Anyone tried to put the outdoor AL files on a Raymarine? I've had issues with it.

I was screwing up importing the .csv file (edited in Excel) into Google Earth because I did not notice that there was another folder inside the .csv folder that was the one that I had to do a "save as" (in google Earth) on to get the full .kml file. Once I got the good .kml file I could use GPSBabel to translate the .kml into a GPX which Garmin and Humminbird can read.

I'm good to go now. Short version: Download .csv from Outdoor Alabama, then edit in EXCEL (saving as .csv) and then import to Google Earth, export back out (via "save as") and then translate with GPS Babel. The trick was to be sure that I was not trying to "save as" on the .csv folder in Google Earth.

Let me know if you need help. (tomorrow - heading out now)

Wife decided she did not want to go out for a while.

I translated the entire file (all reefs) into Raymarine and GPX. PM me an email address and I will send. Let me know if they work.

I am in the process of cutting the file down into logical (smaller) units. Will have that in GPX in a few days. My Humminbird slows down if I have too many points loaded.
