I'm not sure about Foley but if you go back on I65 then stop at Larry's Pistol and Pawn in Huntsville or the new store just a few miles off I65 on I565. They have thousands of guns and tons of ammo in stock.
Larry's Pistol and Pawn
Might check out Craigs Guns in Athens,Alabama don't know if you knew it chillinfish but that's my sons father- in-law.
Checkout Palmettoarms.com for a really great deal on an AR. You just have to pay the transfer fee and NICS 4473 form background check. They run some really great deals on everything. You can look under the description to find out if it is milspec or not. If you have any questions or needs my father in law owns a tactical firearms shop in North Alabama. My wife also enjoys building custom AR15s as well. Good luck they are really fun guns to own.
Maybe while your in this area check out Tucker's in brooksville. Small store with a good collection. Priceville/Decatur exit.334 exit
Thanks Guys, but I was thinking some place close to Foley, not 6 hours away.
like from Gulf Shores to maybe Mobile.
What you looking for. New to the "low end" line in 2015 the Ruger AR556. Son in laws uncle is a Ruger VP. Thinks a lot about this gun. The SR556's are twice this much and out of my league. I had just bought a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 before I heard about the new Ruger. Don't over look the "build it yourself" option like tater73 spoke of. A lot of people spend a lot of money on a gun and then start rebuilding it. Not a bad idea to build it like you want it in the first place. ps the M&P 15 shoots realy nice.
Go to Campbell's Hardware in Robertsdale---the J&M Tackle of hardware and sporting goods---great sales people and prices competitive with any. Good stock of firearms and an in-store gunsmith who knows what he's doing. I just made a great trade with them on a rifle; we were both smiling.
There is Dutchman's on HY 98 east of Foley. They have a good selection of guns, but I have never felt welcome in that store and my friends agree with me.
Another gun store where I stopped briefly a couple of weeks ago is Frank's in Foley, but I don't know their address. They are kind of out of the way on the NW area of town. Only stopped to look around, but got a good vibe.
Overall---go to Campbell's Hardware.
If you want an ar there's 3 shops in mobile that are decent but if you want a killer ar there's tgd firearms in pensacola they have the best parts and what nots anywhere around. Ricks gun and pawn in foley has a rather large selection of new and used. Franks has a lot of hunting rifles Campbell's has a variety but cheaper to order online. Dutchmans has a lot of ww2 stuff that's kind of hard to get but his prices on new stuff is outrageous. Tgd has prices comparative to online and they ship to anywhere you want plus you can buy long guns out of state so you can buy from them. I build Ars and collect guns so I'm in all those placed regularly
Tried to open Palmettoarms.com could not display page is that correct spelling?
Being my first AR, I am leaning toward new, but I would consider used too. I have read about the Ruger AR556 and the S&W M&P15, but I haven't seen either 1. all the shops by me are just stocking higher end ARs, I would like to spend $1,000.00 or less.
The only thing I know for sure is I want 5.56 cal.
Kevin
Ruger makes nice bolt actions and the mini-14. I don't know much about their AR platforms. My AR was custom built in North Alabama so I can't help out on places close to your area.
I found Palmetto Arms, LLC and Ammunition, AR15 Parts, Magazines, Bulk Ammo - Palmetto State Armory but I don't know if either was intended by the original poster.
You're looking for palmetto state armory. And the ruger sr 556 is a beast. Literally one of the best off the shelf ars on the market. There's a place in Brewton which is an hour and a half from foley that has colts for $899 cash and smiths for 750.
Slickguns.com is a great site for all types of guns. It searchs all gun sites and lists the prices and sells
Franks is a good local store in Foley on S Hickory. I've done a few FFL transfers with him on used specialty firearms. Usually has a good ammo selection.
Campbell Hardware on 59 in Robertsdale is also a great locally owned store with a good selection and excellent customer service. We bought my wife's .22 here and had a great experience with honest prices. I would return here in a heartbeat for another purchase.
I always check prices on Buds Gun Shop and KY Gun Co. as I routinely find their prices to be the best to be found. I've financed expansions of both companies with past purchases.
Gulf pawn in foley across from beach express does transfers for $15. Just for future reference
Ammunition, AR15 Parts, Magazines, Bulk Ammo - Palmetto State Armory My apologies the phone does not always write what you type. Honestly the best thing to do is find one and go shoot it. My wife built this one for me. Its a Liberty Tactical Lower and yankeehill upper with BCG and 1/7 Twist barrel. With the Eotech on its dead on at 150 though I rarely shoot it at that distance. The majority of AR customers buy a sytem and then completely design it for their personal wants. My suggestion to you is buy a decent built platform and then augment your selection of accessories. Way more practical financially speaking over the long run.

Here's my setup for hogs and yotes. AeroPrecision upper and lower. Nice gun, I'm pleased with it.
I have a idea on how I want to set 1 up, just not sure on the best way to do it ?. I am 62, so my eyes aren't what they use to be. if possible ?. I would like to have Iron Sights on it, along with some type of Optics so I could zero it at say 150 to 200 yards with the Optics ?. and both mounted on it and functional at the same time.
I am open to suggestions.
Kevin
Purchase an optic and a high mount. Use a flip up backup sight that will cowitness the lower 1/3 of your optic. Slickguns.com has a Delton lite sporter on sale for $449.00. I prefer an aluminum lower and an upper with a dust cover and forward assist. You can get an Anderson machine lower for under $50 and a Delton rifle kit for around $450 that has all mil-spec parts. Just add a mag, optic and BUS.
Purchase a standard rail and then a set of 45" iron sites. Military style....I shot them for awhile in three gun incase the optics failed....
This is the style I recommend for an AR as to keep with the functionality of the modular rail system. Also allows you to be able to adapt to an optic failure with speed and accuracy.
If your going to mobile go to stone arms the guy that owns it can be an ass but he has good prices on some stuff. And also outpost elite in Spanish fort.
Thanks guys, my father in law and I are going to go check out a few of the Gun shops after breakfast this morning.
Kevin
Yes that is my wife Sarah.
I'm slow. I just now figured out who you are. Pretty cool to be married to a chick that is good looking and likes to hunt and builds a mean AR!
Thanks guys.
I went to a bunch of gun shops, ended up buying a S&W MP15 Sport. I think it will be a nice gun for my first AR, the guys at TGD treated me great, and had decent prices.
