Gulf Golf!
During this period of slow fishing action, I have a new found interest in Golf; I call it Gulf Golf.
Gulf Golf is a way for those of us living in a golfing community to enjoy the game of golf and spend some quality time with our golfing neighbors who have settled in our Fishing Community with no intention of wetting a hook.
With a little research I discovered that golf balls can cost about $4 a piece and that explains why golfers spend so much time hunting the little boogers when they could actually be playing golf.
In Gulf Golf, the ball is tethered to a Gulf Golf rod and reel. (A Ling or King setup will work fine)
The ball is cast toward the hole instead of hit with a club.
If you don’t like where the ball lands, simply reel it in and cast again or go to where the ball is and cast again.
Note: Much like Golfer Golf, the number of casts count like stokes.
To score, the ball must hit the ground slightly in front of the hole. (Like casting a Ling Jig at a Ling)
Advantages of Gulf Golf:
• Balls are rarely lost due to being tethered by fishing line, (15# to 20# mono is recommended.)
• An optional hook can be added when playing close to a water hazard just in case there’s something biting.
• Casting skills are maintained during slow fishing periods.
Once Gulf Golf catches on, I feel sure the local golf and tackle shops stock Golf Ball Leaders, right John. For now we will have to make our own.
Maybe a Gulf Golf Tourney next winter?

Little of both. The wife has the flu, so I have been in more than out of the cabin the last few days.

Re: Gulf Golf!
Sorry Finn, never thought I would see you get this bad off. Give her some nightquill, and sneak off to the pier before you get worse off than you are already and die of cabin fever, hurry :(

Re: Gulf Golf!
I would recommend 20# braid for maximum casting distance and maximum line capacity. :poke1:

Re: Gulf Golf!
cabin fever or not, this actually sounds like some fun.
I like the optional hook idea for water hazards. ;) :headbang:

Re: Gulf Golf!
It wont work. The reel handle is on the wrong side. That means you can only cast once. Then, you have to bu y a new reel.

Also, the spinning reel is on a bait casting rod, so it is going to take you more casts to get down the green. You might need a set of rod n reels just like clubs. The reel + cobia rod would work as a driver, but you might need a Stradic with a stiff G Loomis as a putter.
