Today is the birthday of actor Eddie Albert (born Edward Albert Heimberger onApril 22, 1906.) He died May 26, 2005, at age 99.) Prior to World War II, and before his film career, Albert had toured Mexico as a clown and high-wire artist with the Escalante Brothers Circus, but secretly worked for U.S. Army intelligence, photographing German U-boats in Mexican harbors. For his actions in the battle of Tarawa, he was awarded the Bronze Star with combat “V” device.
